We invite local women to commit to our group. The commitment involves four short meetings a year and pledging $100 per meeting. At each meeting, each pledged member (which means you have sent in your pledge form or you have completed one the night of the event) will be given an opportunity to nominate a charity you would like to have our group support. You and other pledged members will place your nominating ballot in a box; that night three (3) ballots will be randomly chosen. The pledged member who nominated the charity will also be listed on the ballot. Not every member has to nominate a charity.
Be prepared to get up in front of the group that night and tell us why your favorite charity should be chosen. If your ballot is pulled from the box, you will have five minutes to talk about the organization you want the women to support. Members will then have an opportunity to ask questions. You CANNOT nominate someone to make this presentation for you and the presenter cannot be a CEO or Executive Director of the organization. It must be a pledged member, even if the pledged members works for the non-profit.
After all three presentations, we vote! The votes are tallied and the majority wins. The winner is announced and, right then and there, each of the women writes a check directly to the winning organization or 501(c)(3). The meeting ends, the checks are collected, and they are then subsequently presented to the charity on behalf of the group. A proxy for absent members will be allowed as long as it is accompanied by a signed/blank check the night of the event. The charity must be a qualified 501(c)(3). The charity will sign a document agreeing not to solicit the members of the group in any way and the non-profit must further agree to send you a receipt for your gift.
It is all up to our pledged members!
